Adopt approaches that promote integration and reuse by partner organisations (in the city and beyond)

Rationale

Public digital platforms and services are built with public money.   So unless there’s a good reason not to do so, outputs of digital initiatives should made available to reuse and build on.

An open approach can support better system integration, foster innovation, promote collaboration and improve interaction with users.

This approach also avoids negative impacts associated with vendor lock-in.

Example Tactics

• Keep others informed of digital initiatives and don't work in silos - others might be doing the same thing already.

• Make source code open and reusable.

• Apply a default position of making non-personal and non-commercially sensitive data open.

• Ensure systems implement open APIs for others to build value-added services upon.
